    SNOW DAY!!

Wow!  Snow, snow, and more snow.  I know a lot of you who read this will say, "Ya, so?".  But we here in southern BC?  We just don't usually see snow like this.  We might get a light dusting now and again, sometimes three or four times a season.  But this is a lot.  It's been snowing for 24 hours, and it isn't stopping.  I think we might have a foot or more.  The chances of us getting plowed out are slim to none.  We as a community don't have the resources to plan for something that just doesn't happen that often.

There are plenty of up sides to this weather though.  The kids love it, they're having a blast.  Both of my commitments for today, church and play rehearsals, were cancelled, so I get to have fun watching the kids having fun.  And a line came down in our back yard.  To most this wouldn't seem like an up side, but really it is, here's the story.  I have been on the phone, our neighbors phone actually, with telus off and on all week.  We lost a dial tone on our phone on Tuesday, so I called telus and they said they would send someone in 7 days to fix it.  I called them again on Wednesday night, and wasn't very nice, and when I woke up Thursday morning I had a phone.  As of this morning, no phone.  Telus says they will still be out on Tuesday to fix it.  But now with this snow, the line came down in our back yard, and I'm hoping to see some action on it within 24 hours.  So maybe I'll have a phone again soon.

I'm hoping the plows come soon though, I need to get to court in Campbell River tomorrow.  There's a foreclosure I want to bid on in the morning, but maybe I can just send my realtor.

Time to go take some pictures.  Talk to you all soon.

    House of doom

I have been so excited about my newest adventure, but now, I'm a little more cautious.  I wrote an offer on a house, sight unseen.  I had some pretty major escape clauses written in, like the inspection, but I still hadn't seen the inside.  The offer was accpted, but the tenant was being rather stubborn about viewings.  When I finally was allowed into the house, I had my ducks in a row, I took an army of people with me, among them was Tavis.  He's a pretty successful new home builder here in the valley, he also happens to be the husband of a lady who is in one of my circle of friends.  He came by to look at the house as a pre inspection favour.  He looked at me and said I was nuts.  The house was probably close to being condemed.  I knew from the blue tarp covering the roof, that there would be some water damage, but I learned from the tenant that the water damage was something that was ongoing for years, and was never fixed.  One of the interior walls looked like it was about to fall down it was so wet.  There was water all but running out of a light socket in the living room, and the stench of cat urine was aweful.  So I collapsed the deal, and ran as far as I could from this place.  Back to the drawing board.  I'm still looking for a place, but it'll have to be a great deal.  Things are pretty stagnant here in the valley, a lot of reductions, nice for picking up a cheaper house, but not so good for resale.  I would need to find an unbelievable deal in order to make even a few thousand.  So we have our eyes open, and we aren't in a rush.  I'm looking at another house today, but I'm not liking the neighborhood already, and I think it's overpriced.  Maybe I'll lowball the offer.  If I offer.  I'll keep you updated.

    Life and other things

So it's been awhile, sorry for the lack of updates. Life has been moving at a rapid pace, even though I'm supposed to be in "recovery". The first week was a bit slow, and that was good considering the amount of pain killers I was on. I stayed in bed quite a bit, and I had planned to let Mike take care of things, but he ended up having a lot of help. The church organized a meals on wheels sort of thing for us for a week and a half. Everyday, one of the ladies from the church would show up in the afternoon with a home cooked meal for my family, and it blew me away. Mike thought they were worried the kids would be surviving on McD's, but I told him that this was just their way of showing caring and helping out. It was awesome!

Then I started to feel better, and Mike went back to work, but I still couldn't (and can't) lift anything. So my Mom came down to help with the kids and the house, she stayed about a week. Another God send. But this past week I've been on my own. My neighbor has been helping me get Zach to school, since she has 3 of her own at the same school it isn't that much of a hardship for her. Jessica and I have been out having adventures. This is where things get fun....

I have always been fascinated with houses. I thought for awhile that real estate would be my thing, but I really don't like sales that much. Then I got into the creative side of home owning, and thought I would like to be an interior designer, but I don't have very good artistic ability, at least not that I can put on paper. This translates into no portfolio, which then in turns means no college would have me. So I would look at these poor houses in need of my help and feel so sad. Then Mike looked at our finances, and he likes what I've been doing, he's happy with where we are, and he said if I wanted to I could use some of the money to start a new career. Real estate investing. House Flipping! Take a dump, fix it up, and sell it for a profit. It can be tricky, but not if you are really careful. So, I have my eye on my first project, and I'll probably be writing an offer on it this weekend. I'll keep you updated.

But I've saved the best for last. Jessica is potty trained!!! She still has the occasional accident, and she won't go on the toilet, only her potty, but we're so there! She even makes it through the night, as long as Mike doesn't let her drink half of her night time bath. WOOO HOOOO! Got a cute shot of her on the potty while we were out looking at houses today, thank goodness for hatchbacks!

    Talk to you soon,
